We’re not sure whether to be thankful or terrified. The people over at Natural Cures Not Medicine have compiled a list of processed foods that contain Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).
When you first start reading the list, you’ll no doubt appreciate the thoroughness that went into the compilation. However, after scrolling and scrolling and scrolling down the page, you’ll probably experience a sense of helplessness. There are just so many products. The truly troubling part is this: since we know that GMOs don’t have to be labeled, the only way you can avoid them is bring such a list with you to the store or use a smart phone app suited to the task.
Of course, one of the best things you can do is limit your intake of processed foods altogether. Unfortunately, the produce section is just as littered with GMO fruits and vegetables, and unless you have the time to grow your own, it can be very difficult to accurately monitor your intake of GMO produce.
Perhaps the best thing you can do is fight to make GMO labeling mandatory. Previously, we’ve covered the defeat of such measures in California, and just last week we noted the efforts of Connecticut residents in their fight to label GMO foods. Once we get GMO labeling, you won’t need to carry a list or squint at your iPhone in order to make a healthy food choice.
